#1257 The month of the Roar

I honestly had forgotten. It had completely slipped my mind.

Until I saw it was my cousin’s birthday on social media… I hadn’t realised.

Hadn’t realised, the month of the Lion had begun.

And not only had I forgotten, but I had failed to remember for a couple of days already…

The sign of the lion started on the 23rd of July.

(Face palm).

How could I forget one of the most exciting times of the year???

I feel things heating up already… take that as you will 😉

#1229 Sign of the Crab

Do you know what just occurred to me?

It is June 27.

Yes yes, the day before the end of term 2, and as much as this makes me giddy with happiness to NO END, that isn’t what I am talking about here.

We are out of Gemini. We are now well and truly proper, in Cancer.

Do you know what that means?

In no time at all…

ROAR!

Baby girl and I, are counting down. 🙂 ♥

#913 What she said no. 6

I have been talking to baby girl about her birthday.

I have been talking to her about MY birthday.

And it comes as one, as I have been telling her about OUR birthday.

Our birthdays are on the same day.

I don’t think she really understood it when she turned 4 last year. I think she kind of figured “hey, it’s my birthday!” and then “hey, it’s your birthday!” and then assumed “hey, it’s everyone’s birthday, woo hoo!”

This year though, only a week or so ago, I sat her down properly and said that I actually shared a birthday, with her. I further explained that many years ago, on my birthday, she had jumped out of my tummy (no need for specifics just yet) and gone “Surprise! I’m here!” and it was the best birthday present I could have EVER asked for.

She later went on to tell me that her birthday was still first. Well actually darling, no because I was born in the morning and you were in the afternoon, and also, I have 30 years on you my little Lion.

But then, she started to get it. And she has been so mature about it, including me in her birthday celebration countdown. I said to her today something about it being her birthday tomorrow, and she replied

“And your birthday Mama.”

Tug at my heart right there. Kids are selfish let’s be honest. So for her to keep including me like this every time there was a mention of our birthdays today, well it just melted my heart sooo much.

She is happy to share it with me.

“Yay, Mama tomorrow my birthday AND your birthday!”

:):):)

And then this convo, while tucking her in tonight…

“Good night my 4 year-old.”

“Me not 4 me 5!”

“No, tomorrow you’ll be 5, you’re still 4 tonight.”

Pause. “Me turning 5 tomorrow, and you turning 64!”

And then we LOLd and LOLd. :):):)

#536 Scalding Hot Showers

You don’t really have to spell it out: a hot shower on a Winter’s night is bliss. We make it out like its a necessity, here in our Western World, when really it is a luxury. To have water come out at the faucet, instantly at the temperature of your choice?

Why, it’s almost magic. And exceptionally good plumbing I might add.

But tonight, today in fact, was no ordinary day. Sure I had a shower tonight. A really, really hot shower. Scalding in fact. So hot I said to Hubbie before I disappeared into my steamy bathroom oasis “I want to come out looking like Sebastian.”

The crab from The Little Mermaid. He LOL’d, and yet totally got it.

Because today was not only cold, it was icy. Freezing. There was no difference in temperature between inside our house and out, and that’s because various doors were open all day, to allow the tradies easy access to and fro you see, because we are getting our new ducted heater installed…

It’s all for a GOOD CAUSE. I told myself that repeatedly, and as I got frostbite in my toes and fingertips (practically) I reminded myself there was hours to go before we had all-inclusive, top-notch, reliable and equal-heated goodness in our house.

And then our gas guy came over to me at 4:30pm and told me he couldn’t finish the big job today – he’d be back tomorrow morning.

Sigh. And on such a cold day/night. Brrrr.

A scalding hot shower, was the only thing that could help. I did, and IT did.

I have to say, that I am counting on writing a very excited new ducted heater post tomorrow, or else gas heads will roll…

But ahhh, scalding hot water. I am a Leo, so I like to be burned… Bliss.

#493 Emerging light of the shortest day

IMAG4552

Does that picture look like something from a science fiction movie?

In fact, I took the above photo on my way in to work this morning. I had to capture something to mark this most exciting of days, and when I saw the image before me, the soft mist turning the horizon into a hazy dream, boats still and sleeping in the foreground, while behind the tall buildings and bright red lights of civilisation, there shone something more.

Something grand.

Something promising.

Something, to HOPE for.

Because today is the shortest day of the year. From now on out, the daylight in each day can only grow incrementally, and with that increase, comes the prospect of brilliant sunshine-y times ahead.

I know we are only 21 days into Winter. However, a glass half-full sunshine loving Leo as myself needs something to look forward to, and the shortest day of the year during Winter, is about the most exciting thing to happen today.

Exciting, and gratifying.

And so it helps, it fell on a day that ended up turning rainy, grey and miserable.

But that’s ok. Because the only way is up.

#395 Her Rock Star exit

We had been saying we were going to go home for over an hour. Of course, something would happen to prolong the stay.

A great song.

Cake.

Deep conversation.

Even dancing.

It kept getting put off, ’til finally, there was no more avoiding it.

“Baby girl, we’re going home.”

“No!” was her definitive reply, time and time again. First she cuddled up under a throw on the couch, watching TV. Then she asked for cake. Then she ran outside and into the makeshift dancefloor, to rip out some moves on what was the night of my cousin’s birthday get-together. A small gathering, but full of big vibes, nonetheless.

We knew we had to bite the bullet. We had to go home, and the longer we left it, the harder it would become to get her to comply.

Hubbie headed out into the yard amongst the throng of people, and grabbed a hold of baby girl, holding her high above his shoulders.

“Bye!” I prompted. “Say bye baby girl!”

And just like that, all the hands at the party flew up in the air waving to her, a chorus of byes echoing out, amidst the laughter and music of the party, and baby girl happily laughed and waved back. She could have been carried by the sea of hands back into the house, rather than up on Daddy’s arms, it was that scenic.

It was the only way for an attention-seeker such as herself to leave the party -with ALL eyes on her. However, because she was the only one of her generation there tonight, it really was all about her.

And I realised, that with my amazing and loving circle of extended family, they ALWAYS do so much to make baby girl happy, and make it about her. Their own kids are older now, but they treat baby girl with the love and light and fun that they did with their own.

They treat her like a rock star, not just when it comes to goodbyes, but ALL the time.

And that’s pretty spesh. That’s pretty awesome for our party girl 🙂

#338 Taking a break

I’m fortunate enough to be able to work alongside some pretty cool views. It’s not often that I am able to appreciate them though.

You know, ‘work’ and all.

You know, temperamental Melbourne weather and all.

Which makes the converging of Summer, and holidays, all the more exciting. Warm and comfortable days, relaxing walks due to not-so-pressing work matters, makes for some… ahhh moments.

While heading out to grab a coffee at work today, I was on my own and without any of my fellow work colleagues/coffee lovers, so I took a longer than normal break to just, you know.

Sip coffee and watch.

imag2962

Breathe in.

imag2969

Observe the glistening water.

imag2968

And ponder that while I’m at work, I’m by the water.

And when I’m at home, I’m also, by the water.

And yet I’m a Lion that loves to bathe in the sunshine.

Always the contradiction.

It was a small, yet tranquil moment, and I took it in while it lasted. Then back to the office I went with my Blended Beard firmly in hand.

imag2970

It’s all about the small things. It always is. Because they add up to the greater whole.
