#1504 Day 6 of getting there: Supporting local – Kirks

I feel terrible for all the businesses out there suffering through this uncertain and indefinite period.

I look around the town that I love, and I feel even more sad.

Because it’s these small businesses that make my town, what it is.

Sure, people will flock and spend and visit and book things once this all blows over, but that could be months away… meanwhile, how do these places stay afloat?

Keep employees paid?

Keep paying rent?

Keep making money amidst further lockdowns, bans and imposed isolation to ALL?

I’ve been happy to see many businesses going online, getting creative and thinking of other ways to get their business out to people who can’t get out anymore.

Really if you think about it, this is kind of the best time in history that we could have this kind of pandemic. Because even though we may not be able to get out in public…

We can still get out and about online.

I’ve made a concerted decision lately that I will be one of many out there, to support local business. I don’t want the people who make this beautiful part of the world so unique and great, to go under, and I want to make sure they know they are supported, while also trying to send the really strong and important message…

Buy local. Wherever you are. Support small business. Keep them afloat. And tell your friends about it too.

Which is what I am here to do. πŸ˜‰

First on one of my many support locals list… Kirks.

Of course, FOOD.

We have been there heaps of times before, (check out my Food Review from a while ago), it is a local favourite on the Esplanade, and no matter what, we seem to gravitate there, again and again.

They recently released a takeaway/delivery menu in the midst of no more in-dining within their restaurant, and I have to say –

WE WERE EXCITED.

Tonight we got a different kind of food delivery!

Instead of your basic pizza, or fish and chips, or drive-through, it was:

Beef Burger

Prawn and Zucchini Risotto

Chicken nuggets and chips (for baby girl – okay kind of takeaway staple!)

and because we got two main meals in there, we were able to get a bottle of wine for $5.

$5!

It’s only the beginning of my loving local and helping local list, so stay tuned…

It’s going to be a big ride. Let’s get ready for the long haul.

And on an aside, it was Zoom night, part 2…

As we caught up with sis and bro-in-law!

Who said isolated Saturday nights were going to be boring? Like hell they are!

#1503 Day 5 of getting there: ZOOM into the future

Just because there is a pandemic happening at the moment and we have imposed self-isolation all over the world, doesn’t mean we can’t see our people, right?

Enter, ZOOM!

And so many other technologies to help us connect, online.

Zoom is just one of those apps resting on people’s lips at the moment. Others are houseparty, messenger, WhatsApp, and Skype, among so many more.

These apps are allowing us to stay connected with people in our life, without even leaving our house, or risking anyone being infected with ANYTHING.

Therefore, being the change of season, and us girls being due for another catch up… yet not being allowed to, due to afore-mentioned ‘PANDEMIC,’ we turned to technology to give us a lending hand.

20200327_231244

And I’ll say… YAY! It was a success.

And you know what? I think being self-isolated at home, and connecting online, we will see each other more, than if we were to try schedule actual physical meetings in person.

LOL. And all it took for us to see each other more, was for there to be a world crisis…

Who knew?

#1476 Together again

I don’t think I realised just how much I missed them all, until I saw them all today.

I’m talking about my family… my WHOLE family.

Cousins, aunties, uncles, kids, people who aren’t my blood technically but who I still faithfully call “cousin.”

And making it sweeter, having my parents, and sis and bro-in-law in the mix.

Age, gender, cultural ethnicity… it’s all irrelevant. We all blend and merge seamlessly into one. I talk to my younger cousins as easily as I do with my uncles, or the 3 year-old birthday girl.

We are all in such different stages of life, and it makes catch-ups like tonight that much more interesting. Either someone is plowing through work, looking for work, or thinking of finishing up work. Some are raising young kids, others teens, while others still are free now that their brood are independent of them.

Some are retired, enjoying the good life in the garden.

Some holiday a couple times a year.

Some are dreaming of their next holiday (um, us? πŸ˜‚)

We get along, but we also argue. We shit-stir, and we agree to disagree.

And although there’s so much separating our very specific and individual lives, there’s one major factor unifying us all.

And that’s family.

We were together for a kid’s birthday today. And not ‘kid’s birthday’ in the literal sense… although there was rainbow cake, pink balloons, dress-ups and a jumping castle…

But there was so much noise. Rowdiness. Gee we can be f$#&ing loud! Anyone passing by outside would be forgiven in thinking it was anything but a kid’s birthday party.

We are passionate, yet we still have our problems. Health problems, kid problems, work problems and just generally, LIFE problems.

We share all this to lighten our load, then we smile. Eat some cake and drink some wine.

Go home full in our bellies and our hearts.

Because we are family.

And gee, I missed them. ❀

#1427 Saturday Night In no. 8

A Saturday night in, but a loud, passionate and fun one with the best company.

It can get a little crazy.

It can get a little noisy.

And it can get a little rowdy, but that’s how things are when we combine, us with sis and bro-in-law, and best man and fam.

The kids will be running around the house at full speed, (and I don’t know how they don’t collect themselves on corners more often) flying past us adults gathered around the kitchen island, clicking glasses and listening to the latest tune selected that is blasting out of the portable speaker.

It’s love.

No really, it is. We were singing “That’s Amore” with booming voices, swaying to and fro and laughing at ourselves.

“When the world seems to shine

Like you’ve had too much wine

That’s amore.”

It sure is. ❀🍷πŸ₯‚πŸ»πŸŽΆ

#1162 Pictures of a Happy Easter

I’ve learnt that a crappy start to the day, week or season does not necessarily mean the entire thing is a write-off.

And given the frustrated moments, running around and sick feelings we’ve all had, the day turned out absolutely…

Eggcelent. πŸ˜ƒπŸ°πŸ₯š

From the Eggceptional home made choc-chip hot cross buns we had for breakfast this morning…

IMAG8431

To the Eggciting Easter hunt around the home…

IMAG8455

And finally, love, laughter and memory-making, (and ALL the brews baking!) at my parents’ house…

This Easter felt like something truly Eggstra.

πŸ˜‚

Ok I stop!

Hope your Easter had you hopping about in happiness too. 😜

#1159 Thursday Night In

How on earth could I be celebrating a Thursday night in, for ALL of us?

Why, that would entail ALL of us being off tomorrow…

It may be school holidays for some… but it is also Good Friday for the rest of us πŸ˜‰

Ahhh.

Watching Bachelor in Paradise with wine in hand, gasping intermittently at what is happening on-screen, with the 4 of us all sharing the couch – Hubbie, baby girl, me and Mister F! – well it was pretty cool.

A pretty great night, chilled on the couch and the best part? Relaxing in the knowledge we don’t have to get up early… none of us!

And despite the love hexagonal dramas, Mister F slept through it ALL. πŸ™‚

#1146 Surviving/celebrating end of term 1

Ahh. What a week it has been.

Baby girl is totally ready for the holidays.

I am totally ready for the holidays.

If we’re being honest, if it weren’t for the fact that it was the last few days of term this week, she would have been at home a lot more often than she was at school.

The poor darling was losing her voice at the beginning of the day. 😦

But the Easter Hat Parade was happening. And I just couldn’t have her miss out…

And the teacher said it was going to be much of a chill day for them…

And they got to dress how they liked…

Geez. Just one more day.

She made it. She survived. And they celebrated during their parade with a couple of interesting visitors…

The police service and fire trucks arrived to bring along Elmo, Mario and Luigi!

IMAG8135

And then the major drawcard, the man of the moment…

Or should I say, the bunny of the moment.

IMAG8158

In another freaking fire engine. Well that’s just egg-celent.

(I had to).

Sure she walked the parade. She was happy in her Sleeping Beauty costume. Her hat we made days ago stayed atop her head only because she was holding it in place (so darn cute). But the girl was wrecked. I was so happy to pick her up at the earlier time of 2:30.

And so, as I prepared dinner hours later, I opened up a new bottle of wine, inhaled deeply –

“Mmmmm”

-and then proceeded to ENJOY IT VERY MUCH.

IMAG8160

But I had to ask myself… was that a celebration wine, or a survival wine?

Because I got through too.

Only another 100 or so terms to go…

#1127 Vino memories

Today, our family gathered at my parents’ house to make WINE.

It was a magical day. The sun shone as we carried buckets of sun-warmed grapes over to be squashed through a barrel… we all jumped into the challenge and in perfect teamwork and harmony we worked together to do the whole lot in just under an hour… and we revelled in the fact of getting our hands right into the sticky grit of it, and feel our day’s work.

It was a wonderful family bonding experience, and something I do hope can become a bit of a tradition as the years go on… but most happily, is the fact that it is not over yet…

Soon, coming to a shed near you… the taste test!

:):):)

#1064 Lovely things to look at

I am just a little bit excited.

Today while out exploring the Mornington Racecourse Market (a place I would highly recommend anyone visit, and one I’ll be most likely reviewing in future) we came across a photo stall.

There were frames upon frames, both big and small, of the beach. Photographs with white backgrounds and caramel coloured wooden frames, and what excited me more than just the fact of it being ‘photos of beaches,’ was that it was ‘photos of OUR beaches.’

There were scenes taken alongside our stunning Peninsula, and to add to my happiness quota…

They were taken by a local himself.

I have said to Hubbie on many occasions, that when I put stuff up on our walls, I want them to mean something. Likewise if I am going to put up beachy shots within the house, I want it to be of our beach, and taken by someone from the area.

The Angels presented me with a brilliant opportunity today, because I went home with this:

imag6769

Every time I look at it, I am happy. I just have happy thoughts. Is it the striking orange and yellow hues across the sky, or the brilliant blue of the ocean mirroring the sky above… The fact that it was taken just down the road? Or a bit of ALL of the above.

As my eyes now run past that previously bare wall, they now jolt back to that vision of beauty, and I am all happy.

All grateful.

But that is not the only view I was enjoying today. We were able to pick up our balcony table and chairs set, and so we wandered up in the evening to sit, and bask in the summertime feels…

imag6778

Ahhh. Now that is gold. Beaches on the inside… and beaches on the outside. πŸ™‚

#914 Sharing the day with her

Here’s something not many people know about me: I never wanted to share my birthday with another person EVER AGAIN.

This implies two things – that I have shared my birthday before, and that my wish for not sharing it again DIDN’T come true.

Yes and Yes.

I have family who are born on the same day as I… or me on the same day as them, whichever way you wanna look at it. Throw in random people I’ve met over the years who are also born on my ‘birth’ day, including the legendary Madonna and the anniversary of Elvis’ death, and well, I just felt like the day was all a bit overused.

When it looked like baby girl’s arrival on this earth was going to come much earlier than expected, and therefore, on my birthday… well I can’t say I was too rapt. And it wasn’t solely for selfishness sakes. I wanted her to have her own day. As much as sharing my birthday with family had been interesting and exciting to say the least, I wanted her to have her day, and her day alone.

Can I now say, how wrong I was?

Sharing a birthday, with not just anyone, but with my daughter – well it is the best thing ever. Double the fun. Double the excitement. Double the special times. Double the partying. Double the surprises.

Double theΒ β™₯

I had a beautiful day today, and sharing it with my baby girl was all the more special.

Here are some gratitude snapshots of the day:

Dinner was comforting and sublime. Just perfect.

And Hubbie got us both flowers… a gorgeous gesture that shows baby girl the loving actions a husband should do for his wife, but by getting her some too, he is setting her up for the love and respect that she will come to expect, in years to come.

Today, was all about sharing, and β™₯β™₯β™₯
