#2235 Disney sing-a-long

Sharing some cute moments with baby girl tonight. ๐Ÿ’–

So she’s playing a game on her ipad, and there’s this Disney princess soundtrack playing behind the game in the background…

All night the songs are changing and we’re bursting out with –

“That’s Belle.”

“Pocahontas.”

“And at last I see the light,

And it’s like the fog has lifted.” (Rapunzel!)

“Under Da Sea!” (Surely this one’s obvious).

“And no one knooowwws, how far it gooooeeeessss.” (Moana).

And then the killer, where she stood on the couch and I burst forth too with our little Frozen re-enactment:

“For the first time in forever,

There’ll be magic, there’ll be fun,

For the first time in forever,

I could be noticed by someone!”

Um, can you tell we both love Disney? And breaking out into song?

#2066 Tangled up

I had a really lovely day out and about with baby girl… at the park, enjoying the sunshine, getting an ice cream and strutting down the Main Street…

But it wasn’t until we were all on the couch at the end of the night, eating pizza and watching a Disney movie that I felt really content.

Baby girl has been hassling us for a movie night for a week now. So she got her wish. We put on Tangled, Disney’s most recent version of the Rapunzel tale, and watched it from start to end.

Things like this don’t happen as a parent. You’re constantly catching bits here, bits there. Maybe some of the start, the end, and a handful of scenes in between.

You think you know the movie, but until you watch it all, you can’t really come to understand everything, and appreciate it in all its Disney-esque beauty.

I already loved it, but I love it even more now! What was surprising was how much Hubbie enjoyed it. Well it does star his mate, Eugene… it’s our little family joke that Eugene, and Kristoff from Frozen, are Hubbie’s ‘mates,’ not just because they’re the guys, but because baby girl has them in doll form, and often she ropes him into voicing their parts when she wants him to play dolls with her. ๐Ÿคฃ

So his mate was in it, the male interest comic relief, so that was good. ๐Ÿ˜€ A strong-willed heroine, some interesting animal sidekicks, an evil witch, and a fascinating story… all with a happy ending.

All from the comfort of our couch. ๐Ÿ˜Š

#802 Parcels of boy/joy

I placed the order at least a month ago. Not long ago I got 1 out of the 2 parcels I was expecting, and then I proceeded to wait… and wait… and wait…

I started to worry the second package had gotten lost in the mail, so I went through my junk mail folder to find a confirmation email from the supplier that had a tracking code for my parcel.

I would click on it every day, and watch the status update:

Arrived and processed in NSW Australia Post

Arrived and processed in Sunshine Australia Post…

I watched and waited, eagerly waiting for the next heading underneath to light up.

Today it did.

Your order will be delivered today!

So, when I saw a Fast Track van come to a stop near our house after I had picked up baby girl from kinder today, I wasted no time.

I mean, we had waited a month for this. Hubbie was home for lunch too, and there was no way I was letting him miss out. This, would be GOLD. I ran off to a closet where I had stashed the first, unopened parcel, and then ran into baby girl’s play area to find two of her dolls – Anna from Frozen and Rapunzel from Tangled.

Because you see, I wasn’t excited about a parcel or special something I had ordered for myself… even something for Hubbie… but the object of my wild anticipation at crazy happiness was for our little girl. A little girl, who would no doubt have a big reaction at what she didn’t know was coming.

Because two of our girl’s favourite dolls, were getting BOYFRIENDS today.

Baby girl had expressed sadness some time ago that in playing with her dolls, she couldn’t marry off Rapunzel and Anna to their on-screen movie beaus – that being Eugene and Kristoff. Although what she calls them are the girls ‘best friends’ – aww, so perfectly fitting when you think about it. There were none to be found in any toy shops we visited, and I knew there and then that they would undoubtedly be found online, but of course, for a $.

I found them for a somewhat ‘ok’ price. And all of this time, feigning that I didn’t know how to find them, that we had to keep looking, pretending it wouldn’t happen, I was secretly brimming with helpless excitement, at the thought of baby girl LOSING HER FREAKING MIND.

And she did. I brought over her dolls and told her they wanted to look in the boxes – the presents were for them, NOT for baby girl. Baby girl protested, even though she was clueless to the contents “yes it is for me!”

“Are you sure?” I asked cheekily as I slit the tape from the boxes to make it easier for her to open.

OH THE SCREAMS! The high-pitch! Her high voice already makes me deaf, and today I was made more so. Watching her losing it over dolls she wasn’t expecting AT ALL, especially today, was such a joy to witness, I laughed out loud during it all. SO WORTH IT.

You can be sure we spent most of the day following the delivery playing with her dolls… and after all of her earlier fanfare, she tells me now that Eugene and Kristoff DON’T want to marry their girls.

Ha. Typical boys.

#538 Her first haircut

It took 4 almost years, a not-so-stressed-out Mum, a laid-back Dad, and a girl that not only allowed her parents to put any kind of accessory into her hair, but also wanted hair as long as Rapunzel’s, before this happened:

Tonight! Our baby girl’s first haircut, and days before her 4th birthday. Although naturally a little unsure when the scissors came near her head, the novelty was in the fact that her grandma was doing the cutting (albeit just straight across the back, but it’s something), and also as I had reminded her aplenty of in the last few weeks, ALL of her friends had had haircuts and LOVED it… or so she was told.

As soon as she was assured it wouldn’t hurt, and it was fun fun fun! she jumped up on the foot stool and let her grandma get to work. A couple of minutes later and a good inch was gone, and a really pleased and grown-up girl remained.

Awww. My heart. This little girl of ours is really growing up.

#495 Shopping with my girl no.4

Today was a day, that could have gone either way.

I had a long moment of frustration this morning. There is an aspect of my life that I’m struggling with, that I’m unable to talk about at the moment – hopefully I’ll be able too, sometime in the future.

I walked into the bathroom about midday, and had to breathe. I didn’t physically cry, but there were tears in my eyes, I had tension all about me, and all I wanted to do was give up. Give up, give in, and let the sorrow wash over me like the crashing waves in the horizon.

But then something happened. A little voice, tiny tiny, made a noise in my head. And it was enough to snap me out of my disillusioned haze to ask “how is your day going to be?”

And in that moment, I decided my sadness was NOT going to rule. It was NOT going toย be the defining moment, feeling or event, of the day.

Still, it was a bit of a Let It Go day. Elsa sings it about letting go of her powers that she’s been holding in and hiding from everyone for so long. But I was using the term to not care. To just be. To not think too much, to allow myself to over-indulge, be free, merry and stress-free.

After baby girl and I surprised Hubbie with a little visit at his work, we headed on down to Bayside for some retail therapy. I am mindful that I shouldn’t be purging the account in light of important renos that need to be made to the house soon, but still, a little focused spending was necessary.

I Let It Go when we had Maccas for lunchย (I had a chicken salad, but still ‘helped out’ย with her Happy Meal)

I Let It Go when she got yet another toy, a doll that she was so happy to hold and hugย (wait for it…)

and finally, I Let It Go when we sat down for coffee and a babycino, and instead of just coffee, I also got cake mofos:

Yep, that’s her new doll, Rapunzel. By the way, I forgot to mention that I Let Her Go, and leave the house in costume, Rapunzel-style herself. Because when else in life do you get to leave the house as a princess? I totally would have done Wonder Woman today if it were at all acceptable.

So yes. A bit of food, a bit of drink, a bit of toys, a lot of costume… and IT DID make me feel better.

But that was my attitude too. Deciding ‘we’re going to move on from this. We are.’

And WE did. For now…

#415 Good, baking, Friday

Just some of my W.I.Ps today:

I’ve gotย a lot of baking to do for Easter which is in two days, and I was more than happy to spend my day off today with my family, on a cold and grey and not too impressive day, just baking at home.

Baby girl played with her blocks, Hubbie played some instruments… and I baked.

Baby girl watched Tangled, Hubbie listened to music… and I baked.

Baby girl lined up all her Kinder ‘surprises,’ Hubbie watched youtube videos of cars he was frothing for… and I baked.

And I really enjoyed it all:)

The smell of muffins, melted chocolate, and moulded cake pops filled the walls of our home, and surrounded by that, and my family… well I think that makes for a pretty Good Friday, don’t you?ย ๐Ÿ˜‰
